I’ve been tying my own shoes for about 30 years, and I just discovered I’ve been tying my shoes the wrong way! There are several advantages to tying your shoes the right way:

  • It is quick to tie your shoes
  • It is also quick to untie your shoes (no double knots to fight with!)
  • And most important, your shoes stay tied while you are running!

There’s a 50/50 chance you are tying your shoes the wrong way. Watch this video to learn the right way to tie your shoes.

New Health Study Proves Validity of ELMM

This post has been sitting in my drafts for a while. I guess today is as good a day as any to finally post it.

This summer I wrote a few tongue-in-cheek posts about a new diet—The ELMM Diet. (ELMM means eat less, move more). Since then it has been one of the top Google searches that brings people to the site. Go ahead. Try it.

My point was that all of the fad diets out there often get in the way of us doing what we really need to do to be healthy—be smart with what we eat and exercise regularly. So I jokingly called this a “new diet”.

Recently a new study came out that suggests The ELMM Diet may not be so silly after all. A study in the New England Journal of Medicine compared the results of different diet plans. Study participants were placed on different diets—some low carb, some low fat, some high protein, etc. The findings? Participants all lost the same amount of weight, regardless of which diet they followed. The conclusion? Eating less and exercising more are the keys to weight loss.

The Twitter Diet

twitter

One of the most important parts of making real changes in your life is “going public.”

It is impossibly hard to make real, lasting change in your life if you are trying to do it in secret. Going public with your goals is an important step in reaching them.

I’ve said this before:

Tell people you are going to change. This may be the most important step if you actually want to accomplish your resolution. Telling others keeps you accountable. People you have told will ask you how you are doing. Knowing others are checking up on you is a powerful motivation for sticking with it.

The reason we don’t want to tell others is because we would be embarrassed if we fail and others knew it. But you are not going to fail. You have already committed to change no matter what. So go public. Tell some people.

Dennis Best has found a great way to go public with his fitness goals: by using twitter.

No matter where I’m at, I’m going to twit the results of my weigh in, everything I eat (before it goes into my mouth), whether I made my water quota, and when I made it to the gym.

You could also do this using Facebook, Myspace, Jott, your blog, etc.

How are you going public with your goals?

ELMM stands for Eat Less-Move More. In order to follow this revolutionary health plan you must follow two strategic steps. 1) Eat Less. 2) Move More. The amazing thing about the ELMM Diet is that you can follow the steps in any order and still receive optimal results.

I am not only the founder of ELMM, I am also a client. I’ll let you know how it goes.

*Disclaimer: As with any diet or exercise program, the ELMM should be followed with moderation and common sense. Talk to your doctor before beginning any diet or exercise program. Individual results may vary.
